My name is Heather Gaffney and I am a certified Family Peer Recovery Coach as well as a Certified Recovery Coach. I received my training through The Partnership to End Addiction as well as The Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery. I am certified to work with both families as well as individuals who are seeking recovery themselves for substance use disorder.
I chose this path because I have lived with the family dynamics of alcoholism and addiction to one degree or another all my life. I am in recovery and have been clean and sober for over 31 years, I made the decision to seek sobriety when I was 21 years old. My mom is in recovery and she has been sober for over 32 years and my husband is also in recovery and has been sober for over 27 years. We also have a young adult son who has been clean and sober for a year and a half. I have experienced first hand what drugs and alcohol can do to the person who is using substances as well as to the family living with the devastation they bring.
I've spent years working on myself to heal from the habits, patterns and personality issues that addiction caused in my life and I have also gone through training to help families and individuals that are struggling with the impact of substance abuse. I know how overwhelming it can be to navigate the world of addiction but my hope is to help people find the care, support and encouragement they need as they learn new ways of coping.
